Inside Matilda and Art's flooring makeover

When Matilda and Art Green renovated their family home, the kitchen got a full makeover - and suddenly the floors around it needed to catch up. The living areas were carpeted, the old kitchen floor was tiled, and none of it matched the home they were creating. On a recommendation from a friend, they came to Harrisons. Here's how it all came together.

New floors, tested from the couch

Before anyone came to the house, Matilda and Art jumped on the Harrisons website and used the Room Visualiser. It's a simple idea: take a photo of your room, then see what different floors actually look like in it.

They uploaded photos of their living space and played around with the options - timber-look planks, carpets, different tones and styles, until they had a shortlist they liked.

Swapping carpet for a wood-look floor can feel like a big call when you're staring at a tiny sample square. Seeing it in your own room, with your own furniture, makes the decision a lot easier.

Once they'd found a direction, they booked a free in-home consultation through the website.

The consultation that comes to you

This is the bit Harrisons has always done differently: instead of trekking around showrooms, your local flooring expert comes to your place.

For Matilda and Art, that meant the Harrisons van pulling up outside and a consultant arriving with a stack of samples - including the Pergo Odense laminate range they'd spotted in the visualiser. Everyone got involved, kids included, laying the boards out on the old carpet and comparing colours in the home's natural light.

Just as useful was the conversation. Their consultant talked through the pros and cons of each option, so the final call was an informed one - not a guess based on a sample square.

They landed on a light oak laminate from Pergo's Odense range. Durable, easy to live with, and the perfect match for the new kitchen.

Out with the carpet, in with the oak!

Then the Harrisons team got to work. The old carpet came up, the subfloor was ground and prepped, the underlay went down, and the new laminate was laid through the kitchen, living areas and hallway. The crew made quick work of it - as the video puts it, they smashed the job out.

The result

The finished floor speaks for itself. Light oak running from the new kitchen right through the living space, with everything feeling bigger, brighter and properly connected.

And it's built for real life. With three young kids and a dog in the house, this floor gets tested daily - laminate this tough takes it all in its stride. As the couple say, they'd happily recommend Harrisons to anyone thinking about new floors.
